OK. Let’s get right to it. Tremblant announced progressive openings due to cold temps on lifts. Or is it because there isn’t as many people and they want to save money. You decide. After all you are paying $85 a day for that lift ticket with basically only 3 chairs open with 14 runs. Not 40 or 50, just 14 runs. I don’t count cat tracks, or magic carpets.
It is cold, very cold. Pay attention to my morning live ski report at 8am on www.tremblant-insider.com that I’m now going to do Monday to Friday honest tips on how to survive these cold streaks. I will also be doing more live on slope broadcasts as well.
Recently I noticed that Tremblant.ca is copying my morning live report and snow videos. But I still tell the truth and not sugar coat things. I show both the positive and negative honest Truth about Tremblant. And having copyrights helps.
It is currently snowing lightly. We are supposed to get 2 inches tonight with another 4 inches of snow on Friday. They are blowing snow on Geant, LeGriffe, and Devils river. Still only limited terrain available. I’ll let you all know in live reports on www.tremblant-insider.com when new terrain is open.
Well we did not get that snowstorm that all the weather networks said we would. We got sleet style/almost sandish snow, with freezing H20, and Rword. Many lifts were late opening on the 27th because of this. Conditions were actually nice snow wise with this, but late openings because of wind and ice on some lifts happened. In fact they had to bus people to the north side of the mountain on Saturday because the high winds closed the gondola.
3 trails on La Soleil were opened, Edge opened as well. Snow making is cranking back up today. I will have the video from the weekend finished an uploaded shortly. Here is a slideshow in the meantime.
They are making snow now on Geant, Devils River, Taschereau, and other aspects of the mtn with more snowmaking expanding as the week continues.
Well we received 3″ of new snow overnight. The race groups are pretty much finished. McCulloch was opened today. They are blowing on the Edge trails, and hopefully the Duncan trail, and La Soleil trails will open in the next day or two. They are blowing in the Terrain park areas. Lowell Thomas trail is taken up by two huge jumps with very narrow side trails so be careful. Grand Prix has very large bumps and really needs to be groomed.
Still not blowing snow on our showcase trails of Geant, Superior, Devils River. And not Expo trails have snow blowing on them yet either. Hopefully they will start on that by January.
OK for the last couple of days, if not the last week the same runs have basically been open. I do not count cat tracks as trails. I only count runs that go up and down. Those that are currently open are. Beavalon Top to Bottom
Grand Prix
McCulloch (after races)
Nanson beginner
Upper Alpine
Ptit Bonheur
Beauchemin Top to Bottom
Rope Tow to Rigadon
Upper Lowell Thomas
**It it currently snowing, and more runs will be open as the week progresses.**
Following runs are closed for race clubs training (these clubs pay for the trails they use)
Nanson Face
Half of Beachemin
La Traverse
McCulloch.
conditions are firm, to hard. I have noticed that not as much snow making is going on as in previous years. Especially since it has been so cold. Those runs that snowmaking is currently going on are. Edge area, Domain de la Foret condo ski/out trail, lower Duncan, La Soleil Trails.
One unit at Tremblant the “La Clairiere” condo units had a small fire last Friday, and then a major fire early this morning. The building is a complete loss. There is no loss of utilities or services to any other Domain de la Foret condo units here at Tremblant. All the units are completely safe. This fire is under investigation.
I’m trying to save some very friendly stray cats the last few days from freezing to death. There are two. I thought were one male and female. I built a box with a 100w bulb. Insulated it, and then used my Marine Corps poncho liner as very warm bed. Problem though. Both cats are females.
So both of them staying in the same spacious box is out of the question. Well tonight the temps really dropped. One poor female I named “Sugar” was on my apt stairs next to the insulated home I built, because Bear was in the other box. Sugar was freezing to death and I could see it. So I spent the last 2 hours building home for Sugar.
I used an old ski boot bag, sacrificed my lava lamp as a heat source, and my favorite Ohio State Buckeyes stadium blanket and built a heated home for Sugar. Trust me it’s warm in there.

Conditions on Monday Dec 15 were stellar. But we still have limited runs open. North side
P’tit Bonheur
Rope Tow -La Traverse
Beachemin Bas to Duncan Chair
South Side
Beauvalon Haut/Bas, Alpine Haut, Biere n’ Bas
Nanson was closed for ski racers, also part of Beauvalon was. Conditions were 2″ of new stuff, but it was heavy. Open runs were busy because of limit space and race clubs taking up runs.
December 16
Much colder and windier. Nanson was open today, but Beavalon was mostly taken up by ski race clubs. Biere n’ Bas was really smooth. I met up with a ski instructor “Denis” group and took a run or two on Rope Tow/La Traverse which got icy very fast.
As far as the park goes still only 1 jump and 2 rails open. I knew we had more snow that more trails could be opened, so I decided to do some hiking and show you. Watch and enjoy the powder shots, and they promised more trails to open this weekend. We’ll see, but enjoy the freshies and worry about it this weekend.
Well I must apologize for the delay in this report. It’s been a ton of work getting the Helmet Cam rental ready at the Salomon-shop starting this Thursday. That’s right you can rent the same Helmet Cam I use to film your stay.
Now on Sunday on the only runs open because of the 24hrs was on the North side to start
P’Tit Bonheur
Rope To to La Traverse
Lower Beauchemin
Conditions were firm, but lower Beauchemin had golf balls because it just opened. Lowell Thomas and Duncan Chairs were open. It started snow around 12 noon and at 1pm they opened Beavalon top to bottom on the South side.
Sunday the Duncan was closed. Only runs open on the North side was P’tit Bonheur, Rope Tow to La Traverse. South side was Beauvalon top to bottom, Upper Nanson, Upper Alpine, Beire n Bas. Conditions were 4 inches of fresh snow. It has been snowing good now for 18 hours. Powder day today.
